Often PTH (pin through hole) components in an Axial or Radial configuration cannot be placed using insertion equipment. In such case components will require lead forming for manual insertion, often with suitable stand-offs.

Many MOSFET devices, connectors and small metal parts for SMT assembly also need cropping from strip or leads cropped prior to lead forming operations then taped and reeled for automatic assembly.
